Critical Praise for Clear Soul Forces:

"So I will admit it: I slept on Clear Soul Forces. But...felt compelled to check out their music. And, surprise surprise, it was dope." -PotHolesInMyBlog.com

The Video:

Detroit, Michigan has, for at least the past decade, been one of the hottest breeding grounds for hip-hop talent. And following in the footsteps of those that came before them is Clear Soul Forces, a four-person group comprised of Ilajide, Wimpy, E-Fav, and J-Roc. Clear Soul Forces first hit the scene in early 2010 with the release of their free mixtape, Clear Soul Radio. This past fall, CSF released The Departure EP, and while the project has already amassed over 10,000 downloads, the Motor City upstarts aren't slowing down and are now prepping the release of a handful of videos from the project. Joining the new video, Clear Soul Forces is excited to announce the launch of their new website, www.ClearSoulForces.com, which fans should visit regularly to keep up on all things CSF, including new media, show announcements, and more.

The first video released is for the EP's lead single, "Gon' Get 'Em." Directed by Gerard Victor, whose previous work includes videos with Black Milk, Royce Da 5'9, eLZhi, Ro Spit, and more, the video places CSF into the world of comic books, with each scene incorporating washed and pixelated images as special effects graphics surround the guys throughout. "Before we had even talked, Gerard actually came to us with the comic book idea not knowing we had the same type of vision for the video," explains J-Roc.

"With the song," says E-Fav, "we just wanted to showcase everyone in the group's lyrical abilities. We want you to know for certain that we can rap." And those lyrical flourishes are on display early and often with lines from Wimpy like, "I'm the Scottie Pippen of the verb/ Put in the same amount of work, don't get the credit I deserve." And as is par for the course with Clear Soul Forces, the line, in addition to the witty wordplay, holds a deeper meaning for the group. "That's a really strong line, because we feel like that applies to us a little bit," explains E-Fav, adding, "But we're out here making a name for ourselves and it seems to be working." Indeed.

The Background:

Many unsigned artists build their discography and confidence for years, while waiting to get discovered. But for emcee’s Wimpy, J-Roc, E-Fav, and producer/emcee Ilajade their chance came while recording at the same facility as Detroit rap legend Royce Da 5'9, who convinced them to form Clear Soul Forces. In 2010, CSF released their debut mixtape, Clear Soul Radio, which showcased a mixture of industry beats and original productions. By balancing boastful and introspective rhymes with both energetic and subdued instrumentals, the group garnered a diverse group of followers and become a fixture on college and Internet radio stations around the state, which lead to winning a Battle of the Bands contest and performing at Atlanta’s A3C Festival in 2010. The group's latest EP, Departure, is reflective of their career taking off. With high-octane rhymes and backdrops, they show their skills and flawlessly execute conceptual songs while pointing out that dedication and teamwork is the group’s core value.
