Critical Praise For Anthem Facility:

"'Left To Defend' is probably my favorite track off of Trace, because it doesn't try to do too much with its sound. I hate to say that it's great thinking music because that's such a cliche statement, but it is." - In Audio We Trust

"Their debut track "Trace" is a melodic languor driven by synth-infused, repetitive, staggering beats impassioned by a fervently sensual and hushed voice." - Procrastinate then Combust

"Been a while since I've found something this sultry." - Head Underwater

The Video:

"Trace," the title-track off of Anthem Facility's EP of the same name served as the perfect introduction into the minds of Stephen Hermann (Explosion Robinson) and vocalist Melati Malay (Lavalier, Young Magic.) This time around, Hermann linked up with L.A. based DJ/producer Evan Stalker, who turned the song into a straight up Dance track. Removing all vocal clarity, the remix instead chooses to harp heavy on thumping bass and techno-inspired electronics.

Along with the new track also comes an exclusive video, which was shot entirely by Hermann himself while visiting Tokyo just a week prior to the devastating earthquake back in March. Aiming to capture the mechanics of an urban landscape and some of the absurdity of modern life, Hermann incorporated a timelapse/tiltshift setting to his Canon s95, successfully juxtaposing the manic state of rush hour traffic in downtown Tokyo with the disorienting vibe of the song.

The Background:

Anthem Facility is the latest creation of New York based producer Stephen Hermann, who has been making music for over 20 years. By teaming up with Melati Malay, an accomplished NYC vocalist in her own right, Anthem Facility has created a nitch for itself in the ever-evolving musical genre indie-tronica. The collective was originally conceived for more commercial purposes, but eventually evolved into a personal endeavor for Hermann and Malay. While working on a campaign for Dell Computers, Herman was hired to compose original music for the brand. Out of that promotion, Anthem facility was born. Their debut EP Trace will be released this fall on Hermann's new label, exro.FM.
