spacer Video: A-Wax - "Free Choice" 12.06.2012
spacer Latest Visual From Pie-Rx Muzik Follows A-Wax As He Rides Around His Hometown spacer

The Video:

It's been a busy year for A-Wax. With the release of his album, Everybody Loves Me: Chapter I earlier this summer and the recent founding of his new label, Pie-Rx Recordz, the West Coast rapper has been hard at work. Just last week, A-Wax released his latest mixtape, Pie-Rx Muzik, and the tape has been well received, including a co-sign from trendsetting London website Southern Hospitality, which presented the project. And while Pie-Rx Muzik, as the debut release from his new label, serves to bring more attention to the new artists that A-Wax is helping to foster, the project also packs a host of eye-catching names, including Iggy Azalea, YG Hootie, Jahlil Beats, Araab Muzik, and Cardiak.

Today, A-Wax is releasing the latest video from Pie-Rx Muzik, and the first since the mixtape's release, "Free Choice." The video joins A-Wax on a ride through his hometowof, Pittsburgh, California, as he reflects on his past. "I take a lot of my inspiration from the years I spent in prison," says A-Wax, speaking on stretches he spent behind bars as a young man. "It molded me; it made me what I am today. This song is me talking about coming up in prison, about how it's our own 'Free Choices' that will land us in prison or help keep us out." Edited and directed by 3rd I View, the video captures the former inmate rejoicing in his freedom in his city. "I'm reflecting as I rap and smoke," says Wax. "There's a nice background; it's a regular day. Kids are out playing, and I'm happy to be free."

The Background:

A lot of rappers make music about the penitentiary. Few can say that they learned their craft while incarcerated. Having emerged after a lengthy stretch in the prison system during his teenage years, A-Wax turned to rap and came up in the game old-fashioned way, selling CDs hand-to-hand and through Mom & Pop stores across the region. The hard work has paid off -- A-Wax has moved over 200,000 units, independently, no small feat, and the accomplishment eventually led to a deal with Akon's Konvict Muzik label. A-Wax and Akon ultimately went their seperate ways, due to creative differences, and now A-Wax is back on the independent grind, with a new album, Everybody Loves Me: Chapter 1. The album, which was released in July includes features from French Montana, Styles P., Mistah FAB, and more, is out today, July 17th, via Illburn Records. In addition to this release A-Wax has progressed even further. He has reently gone on to form his own label, Pie-Rx Recordz, and released his latest mixtape, Pie-Rx Muzik.
