The MP3: Next week, Berkeley, California, rapper MUMBLS will release his brand new mixtape, *Hella Novellas. To date, the 22-year old Andre Nickatina* protégé has released two singles, "Parachute" and "Spellbound," and with his latest single, "Overnight Bag," MUMBLS follows right in line with the previous two, combining his endearingly unrepentant bravado with his even more endearing love for illicit recreational habits. "Making the track was fun as fuck," explains MUMBLS, noting that he flipped a song from indie-pop artist Blood Orange for the track. "I just wanted to lay down some smooth ass player raps for what I hope becomes a serious panty dropper." More than anything, though, in the vein of some of MUMBLS biggest influences – Ghostface; Dana Dane; Too $hort – "Overnight Bag" is full of intricate, personal story raps. "Each verse is a vignette about me; it's a very personal track," reveals MUMBLS. "The first verse takes place at a party where I'm trying to get laid, and the second follows me from the party to a bar crawl in the East Bay. I shout out all the little dives that I frequent." The Background: Andre Nickatina's young protege MUMBLS is a Berkeley, California-based emcee with a penchant for having way too good of a time, while somehow maintaining technical prowess. Citing Dana Dane, Ghostface Killah, and Mac Dre as some of his rap influences, MUMBLS also looks to Glam Rock staples such as Marc Bolan and David Bowie for creative spark. Describing himself as Half-Viking and Half-Mexicano, the Nor-Cal representative brings a strangely unique style and perspective to the mic. Usually intoxicated, MUMBLS weaves tales of lust, drugs, and flat-out avoiding adulthood in a brutally blunt manner. His goal is to stimulate your mind while he prolongs the party.
