The Podcast:
We’re kicking off Audible Treats Hip-Hop Podcast 173 with Chevy Woods‘ “Houston,” the first track off the Taylor Gang rapper’s newly released SXSW I Love Texas EP. “This EP is what I would wanna hear in my ride if I lived here,” Chevy Woods stated before performing at several SXSW showcases. “Salute to all the pioneers from Texas!” Next up is Black Milk‘s loose single “I Guess.” The Detroit rapper is currently on his Play Like Hell Tour as a hip-hop veteran with more than a decade of industry experience and a rich, well-rounded catalog of recordings. Third on the podcast is Nigeran and Haitian, Quebec-bred rapper Wasiu with his remix of RAW Records‘ Thomas White and Dear Lola‘s “I Know.” The track, which premiered via Complex, dropped in preparation for his yet-to-be-titled debut album following a series of single releases from the project. Following “I Know” is Down 2 Earth‘s “Powers,” off the Oakland trio’s debut LP, Wildfire. The heavy track features singer Simmi and production by Kuya Beats, who applies the recognizable bass slap that the Bay Area is known for, while taking a darker, gloomy approach than the typical function-ready affair. We close the podcast with an eccentric ProbCause and Manic Focus remix of Exmag‘s “Tilt Mode,” which features singer Gibbz. ProbCause recently released an EP with Hologram Kizzie, fka Psalm One, as ZRO FOX, displaying a range of hip-hop, trap, and wavy electro-spirited cuts. With his indisputably savvy bars and percussive delivery, ProbCause is at the head of the pack of promising new Chicago artists.
