The Podcast:

Kicking off Audible Treats Hip-Hop Podcast 172 is prolific Chicago rapper Montana of 300 (no relation to Chief Keef) with his remix of “Trap Queen,” which features singer Jalyn Sanders. Often referred to as “Rap God,” Montana of 300 got his start back in 2008 when he named himself after the movie 300, adopting the movie’s underlying motif “No surrender, no retreat” as his own anthem. The “Trap Queen” remix has Montana of 300 flexing his ceaseless energy as he effortlessly raps about sticking with the real ones, getting hype with his crew, and his life as an MC. Next up is Maryland by way of Nigeria by way of Harlem rapper Ikey with his soulful single, “Lord,” featuring SaveMoney‘s Kami de Chukwu. “Ikey stays soulful as he stunts,” explained Okayplayer in their premiere, “dropping high-syllable-traffic verses that show thanks for fine things like crisp clothes, sunshine and a beautiful woman.” Third on the podcast is multi-platinum producer Tommy Brown with “Trippin’ On Me,” which features Eric Bellinger and Travi$ Scott. Tommy remains behind the boards and also steps to the mic on his contagious debut single, which was premiered by The FADER. We follow the banger with “Cant Believe/Road Trip” by Detroit emcee MAHD. The single, off his 13 concept album, finds MAHD delving into a personal and emotional story, starting in the middle of an argument, telling how and why things have gone bad and how he can’t believe he’s finding himself in the situation he’s in. We conclude the podcast with the trap-inspired “Cell Boomin,” Maxo Kream’s ode to hustling-by-phone. “Cell Boomin,” the latest single off #MAXO187, features Awful Records’ Father and production from Wxlf Gxd. “Maxo Kream has established himself as one of Houston’s most exciting young rappers by way of being one of Houston’s least traditionally minded artists,” states Noisey in their premiere of #MAXO187. “This tape is a perfect encapsulation of the sound of hip-hop’s rapid synthesis…the genre’s new underground heroes are bridging aesthetic and regional gaps,” Noisey says, adding, “more importantly, it is also fucking cool.”
