The Podcast:

We’re kicking off Audible Treats Hip-Hop Podcast 171 with “My Jam” by Bobby Brackins, which features February Teen Vogue cover girl Zendaya and R&B singer Jeremih. The track is yet another hit from Brackins, who penned Tinashe’s “2On” and Chris Brown’s “Loyal.” With increasing recognition as a solo artist, Bobby is ready to step into the spotlight in 2015. Following “My Jam” is prolific San Francisco rapper A-1’s single “There I Go,” which features production from Mr. Carmack. The track received rave from Noisey, who premiered the track saying “A-1 takes an absolute monster of a Mr. Carmack instrumental and cowties it into something that sounds so vital and absolutely hyphy that it pretty much had to come from the Bay.” Continuing the podcast with more West Coast vibes is “Let the Bass Go” from a new duo featuring legendary Hiero rapper Opio and Los Angeles beatmaker Free the Robots. The pair experiments with psychadelic, progressive sounds on their forthcoming EP, The Subconscious Mind, which releases March 3. We follow the heavy tune with “Nothin Less” from Iamsu!, one of the main architects responsible for the “New Bay” sound that’s dominating airwaves. Iamsu! premiered his new EP, Eyes On Me, this week via Billboard. “The song is about progression…The lyrics describe my aspirations as a artist and a man. I want to give kids bigger aspire to. I things to talk about owning companies and employing people, I want to be a boss and an artist like Jay-ZDr. Dre, or Master P.” Next, we’re ushering in Montreal rapper Wasiu with his single “Physical.” The track is an oscillating production guided by whistles and softly-stricken piano keys. The visual for “Physical,” which premiered via Noisey, shows Wasiu rocking over $40,000 worth of outfits, including pieces by Saint Laurent, Rick Owens, Margiela, and Bape, along with a Louis Vuitton duffle bag while he lays down the truth to his side chick—she’s just a number. This concludes Podcast 171; we hope you enjoy this collection of slappers while planning your next trip to the West Coast. Stay tuned for more.
