A bruising emcee with a tireless work ethic, Philthy Rich returns today with a hallucinatory video and a new track “Numbers,” premiered today by HotNewHipHop. “Numbers” finds the Oakland rapper delivering matter-of-fact rhymes about his substantial ends over subdued minor-key organ and electric keys courtesy of Atlanta sound architect Zaytoven. A laid-back, yet insistent track, “Numbers” features standout guest appearances from fellow Californian Skeme and Houston rapper/Sauce Twinz member Sauce Walka, who previously collaborated with Philthy Rich on “Feeling Rich Today,“ garnering over 844,000 plays on YouTube. “Numbers” is the first single from Philthy Rich’s upcoming Hood Rich 4 mixtape, his third full-length release of 2016 following Real N*ggas Back in $tyle and SemCity Moneyman 4, expected to hit the internet in August. The sequel to 2011’s Hood Rich 3, Hood Rich 4 features guest appearances by G-Herbo, Shy Glizzy, Kash Doll, and Soulja Boy with production from the likes of Zaytoven and Shawty Fresh.
A veteran in the Bay Area rap scene, Philthy Rich built a reputation as the Bay Area’s Gucci Mane because of his drug-fueled, yet down-to-earth, rhymes, his prolific output, and his relationships with the best street rappers and producers. Last week, Noisey premiered a remix of Real N*ggas Back in $tyle highlight “Piss Codeine,” featuring what they called a “buffet of great rappers,” including Kevin Gates and Young Dolph. Earlier, WorldStarHipHop premiered the videos for “Way Before” and “Piss Codeine,” both produced by Zaytoven, and “Broke Boy,” featuring Young Dolph. In the lead up to Real N*ggas Back in $tyle, the first in a series of three albums with the same title, Philthy Rich shared a series of singles starting with music videos for the IAMSU-assisted money-making anthem “Make A Living,” which gained more than one million Soundcloud streams, and trunk-thumping Young Scooter collab “Buss Down (Right Now).” Philthy Rich’s latest project, SemCity MoneyMan 4, available for streaming on Soundcloud and for purchase on iTunes.
