Critical Praise for Philthy Rich

“With a decade-long career, ties to his region’s old guard, and a clever affection for delivery surrounded by repetitive earworm hooks, Philthy’s grown from a Mac Dre-affiliate into a venerable heavyweight of the Yay Area revival sound.”Mass Appeal

“A veteran in the Bay Area rap scene, Philthy Rich built a reputation as the Bay Area’s Gucci Mane because of his drug-fueled, yet down-to-earth, rhymes, his prolific output, and his relationships with the best street rappers and producers.”HipHopDX

“The Oakland native has been working hard lately and been dropping some fire music.”XXL

The Song:

A prolific grinder from East Oakland’s notorious Seminary neighborhood, Philthy Rich uses his conversational flow and knack for snappy wordplay to rap about the hustle. Premiered today by Vibe, “Straight Drop” finds Philthy recruits hustlers from all over the continent to rhyme about how they handle their business over a minor-key instrumental courtesy of Spiffy. Featuring Harlem’s Jim Jones, Detroit’s Icewear Vezzo, and South Florida’s Ball Greezy, who supplies the smooth, southern-fried hook, “Straight Drop” is the latest single to drop from Philthy’s upcoming Hood Rich 4. The Oakland rapper’s third solo full-length of 2016, Philthy Rich hits the internet on November 18th.

Hood Rich 4 is the apeothesis of a very busy 2016 for Philthy Rich. Philthy already released two solo full-lengths this year: February’s Real N*ggas Back in $tyle and June’s SemCity MoneyMan, two full-length collaborative albums, American Greed with Maybach Music signee Yowda and Political Ties with fellow Bay Area street icon Mozzy. In addition, Philthy frequently treats fans to high quality remixes, loose tracks, and visuals. Last week, Philthy shared the Dirty Glove Bastard-premiered video for hustler’s anthem “Bounce Back”. In October, Philthy shared Money In The Trap,” the Mass Appeal-premiered single with verses from Los Angeles’ Casey Veggies, Chicago’s Rockie Fresh, and D.C.’s Fat Trel. Earlier, The FADER shared the video for  “Fuck I Look Like,” which features Detroit rapper Kash Doll. Featuring additional appearances from Soulja Boy, Birdman, B.o.B, G. Herbo, Shy Glizzy, Young Dolph, Young Greatness, Doughboyz Cashout, Skeme, Sauce Walka, and Sosamann, as well as production from ZaytovenSpiffy, RJ Lamont and Cassius Jay, Hood Rich 4 is currently available for pre-order.

Philthy Rich will be in New York on Wednesday, November 9th and Thursday, November 10th for interviews.
