Unique ATLien Peewee Longway Announces 11/30 State of the Art Album, Shares Leaned-Out “On Dat Freestyle”
The Influential Trapper Flexes His Flow Artistry in the “On That Freestyle”
11.05.2018
Critical Praise for Peewee Longway:
“Peewee Longway is one of hip-hop’s secret weapons.” – XXL
“His topic is usually trapping, but that singular scope allows him to be one of Atlanta’s most consistent rappers on the subject.” – Pitchfork
“As a sheer vocal stylist, Longway is an absolutely incredible rapper, one capable of finding five different cadences on one spacey beat and then trying them all out in the space of a single verse.” – Stereogum
The Announcement:
An influential connector in the ATL trap scene, Peewee Longway is an unlimited source of inventive flows. Returning to the fold with a new batch of bangers, Peewee announces State Of The Art, his upcoming album. Peewee uses the sonic backdrop of trap music as a canvas, painting his outsized personality and his unique sense of rhythm above rumbling bass and skittering hi-hats. The proper follow-up to Peewee’s 2016 studio debut Mr. Blue Benjamin, State Of The Art is a testament to Peewee’s microphone prowess, offering bouncy piano jams like “Bout It, Bout It,” minor-key flexors like “James Harden,” drugged-out anthems like “Les Be Real,” and many more. Featuring appearances from Gucci Mane, Migos, Plies, Maxo Kream, Young Nudy, and Lo Life Blacc, and with production from Mustard, 808 Mafia, ATL Jacob, Quay Global, Cicero On The Beat, and more, State Of The Art arrives on November 30th via MPA Bandcamp/EMPIRE.
To accompany the album announcement, Peewee shares the video for “On Dat Freestyle,” a lurching monster of a track. Produced by Cicero On The Beat, “On Dat Freestyle” finds Peewee rhyming above low-pitched synth squelches, seemingly beamed in from beneath the ocean, as he locks in with the crisp snares and flitting cymbals. Switching up his flow to emphasize the contours of the instrumental, “On Dat Freestyle” highlights Peewee’s oft-overlooked lyrical ability, as he spits rapidfire, alternating between outrageous boasts and subtle self-deprecating humor: “A brick of Harry Potter cost you a fee/Room full of knocks might make you OD/I eat my plate and it make me obese.” In the video, directed by frequent collaborator Omar The Director, Peewee ghost rides like he’s from the Bay, rocking a ski mask and resembling a street Luchador.
An influential figure in the ATL trap scene, Peewee Longway is a longtime associate of Gucci Mane and Young Thug, and is responsible for connecting the two back in 2013. Praised by Stereogum, XXL, HotNewHipHop, and others for his distinctive style and songwriting ability, Peewee earned the attention of LL Cool J, who called Peewee his favorite new artist. Earlier this year, Peewee shared Spaghetti Factory, a full-length collaboration with ATL producer duo Spaghetti Jay. Released in March, Spaghetti Factory inspired several outrageously creative music videos, like “Jumanji,” in which Peewee jet skis in a swimming pool, with only a bevy of beautiful women and a pair of lean-sipping spider monkeys, and the FADER-premiered, Wolf of Wall Street-inspired video for “I Can’t Get Enough.“

The Background:
Peewee Longway, born Quincy Williams, is an Atlanta based artist known for his unorthodox flow and extraordinary use of intonation. Hailing from the tough streets of South Atlanta, Peewee, as his friends refer to him, grew up in a single parent home with one brother and one sister. Regardless of the obstacles he was presented with Peewee Longway still found a way to persevere and becomeknown as one of Atlanta’s most revered lyrical new artists. His debut mixtape Money, Pounds, Ammunition was released in March of 2013. Though most became familiar with Peewee Longway from his affiliation with his mentor, and close friend, Gucci Mane’s label 1017, he actually nurtured and created his own imprint, MPA Bandcamp Music Group. The next release, Running Around the Lobby, picked up steam and earned Peewee loyal fans that call themselves “Lobby Runners”. In turn this became the name to the third mixtape he put out that same year, in December of 2013.
Much like his peers that emerged from the Trap Music explosion in Atlanta, such Young Thug and Future, Peewee’s work ethic is phenomenal having released 10 projects since his debut in 2013. The last three projects Peewee released (Blue M&M King Size & MPA Vol. 2 & 3) were actually released in just months of each other. When asked, Peewee says that among his favorite Groups and Artists are the Hot Boyz, No Limit, Tupac, E40, and Gucci Mane. With hits like “Sneekin and Geekin,” “Cost to Be the Boss,” and “I Just Want the Money,” Peewee began to gain the attention of Legends like LL Cool J, who named him his “favorite new artist”. He also began to record with fellow Artists, such as ASAP Rocky, E40, Juicy J, Wiz Khalifa, and Wale. Music Publications including The Fader, Complex, and XXL have also taken notice of the budding superstar, crediting his contribution to the evolution of Southern music. With the release of his most recent project, Longway Sinatra executive produced by Cassius Jay, Peewee hopes to finally catapult his career to the next level. Longway Sinatra will be Peewee Longway’s second commercial release. With the music world on pins and needles waiting for his new musical offering, Peewee takes it all in stride. Known for his bubbly personality, bright smile, and animated hand gestures, he quotes ”The best is yet to come, they’re not ready.”
