OMB Peezy Announces Debut Solo Full-Length Loyalty Over Love, Coming Soon

The Bay-via-Bama Rising Star Lays Out His Philosophy in the Lead Single “Soulja Life Mentality”

5.4.2018

Critical Praise:

“[OMB Peezy] is tough but melodic, with a youthfully urgent voice and production that’s indebted to Louisiana and California.” – New York Times

“Peezy’s impassioned flow makes the circumstances he’s discussing feel visceral and immediate as a listener; there’s nothing impressionistic about his bars” – Pigeons and Planes

“This kid from Alabama is the future of rap.” – The FADER

The Announcement:

Dispensing essential street wisdom at the speed of sound, OMB Peezy thrills with his drawling and tumbling delivery. Following up a successful series of singles and collaborative projects with Cardo Got Wingz and Sherwood Marty, OMB Peezy strikes out on his own for Loyalty Over Lovehis upcoming debut full-length. Combining a Bay Area bounce with a Southern Fried sheen, Peezy crosses regional boundaries with the new project, waxing rhapsodic about his life as a rising star. Whether he’s seething at inept law enforcement on the previously released and Noisey-premiered Fuck My P.O.,” revealing his struggles on “All Kinds of Pain,” paying tribute to the West Coast with the Dr. Dre-referencing and Donny Hathaway-sampling “Ghetto Boy,” or letting loose on “Yeah Yeah,” Peezy is a magnetic presence, weaving his threats and boasts around hot instrumentals. Featuring an appearance from TK KravitzLoyalty Over Love arrives later this summer via Sick Wid It Records/300 Ent.

Born in Alabama, the 20-year-old Peezy moved to the west coast when he was 12, developing a reputation as a rap prodigy, building a following on YouTube, and gaining the respect of the new wave of Bay Area artists such as Nef The Pharaoh and legends such as E-40. In 2017, OMB Peezy parlayed his grassroots local fanbase into a national following, earning millions of combined streams on his singles like the virally popular hitsWhen I Was Down,” Porch,” and Lay Down,” which Pigeons & Planes listed at #14 in their halftime list of Best Songs of 2017 and which Passion of the Weiss listed as their #19 for the year. In October, Peezy shared his debut project Humble Beginnings, a slap-heavy six-pack produced in full by Grammy-nominated producer Cardo Got Wingz (Kendrick Lamar, Jeezy, Meek Mill) and released by Sick Wid It/300 Ent.. Peezy also toured throughout 2017, supporting Detroit artist Tee Grizzley in the fall and accompanying SOB x RBE on a national tour in the spring. In November, he collaborated with Gucci Mane on “Pray For Me,” a track by producer Adam Snow. In late 2017, Peezy shared videos for Humble Beginnings hits “Talk My Shit” and “Doin’ Bad,” and released a revealing documentary via TIDAL. Most recently, Peezy enjoyed a successful SXSW, including sets at the Revolt House, Sway In The Morning, and Facebook, which he documented in a recap vlog. In January, Peezy shared Young & Reckless, a joint mixtape with Peezy’s 300 Ent. labelmate Sherwood Marty, which proved that Peezy’s excellent run of 2017 singles was no fluke. Last month, Peezy recruited Paper Lovee for the FADER-premiered Ride single.

To accompany the album announcement, OMB Peezy shares “Soulja Life Mentality,” the latest look at Loyalty Over Love. Riding atop a sparkling keys and impossibly deep bass, “Souljah Life Mentality” finds OMB Peezy railing against the status quo, commenting on the difficulties of surviving as a young black man in a white world: “My mind racing, wanna be patient/But I can’t relax/Police racist, I just can’t take it/I’m riding with racks.”
