You may know Huey only for his anthem “Pop, Lock, and Drop It,” which set off the dance craze “The G5,” but there’s a whole lot more to Huey. Case in point, Huey has just released a web centric trilogy of music videos aimed at his fans who look primarily to the web for music and entertainment.
The three videos, which won’t appear on traditional outlets like MTV and BET, are meant to be seen in a certain order as they reveal what a day in the life of Huey is like. First is the non-album track, “Adidas” which shows Huey visiting the “I Am St. Louis” store to pick up some fresh new Adidas gear. The next video is “Aye,” which shows everyone in STL having a good time and celebrating life on a hot summer day. Next is the third and final video for another non-album track, “Nobody Loves the Hood.” Explains Huey, “The videos show what a typical day is like where I call my boys up, we get some new Adidas clothes and then we’re feelin’ good so we party and holler “Aye,” but then a gunshot rings out and the emotions kick in and we’re reminded that we still got a lot of problems in the hood.”
The gentlemen from Nuk Fam known as Junk Science and Iller Than Theirs are extending their tour this month with two more dates in Oregon, performing on stage with Hangar 18 and Glue. On Sunday, 11/18 they will play Rotture (315 SE 3rd Street) in Portland, and on Monday 11/19 you can see them for $8 at Indigo District (1290 Oak Street) in Eugene.
Again, that’s 11/18 in Portland at Rotture, and 11/19 in Eugene at Indigo District. It should be a great show(s), so lets see the Pacific Northwest out in full force!
If you want to know more about Junk Science, we have the info straight from the horse’s mouth. Snafu and Baje One dropped by our office to discuss their new album Gran’Dad’s Nerve Tonic, touring life and beer, among other things. The interview is broken up into Part 1 and Part 2 - and features our office dog Mochi, who couldn’t seem to stay out of the shot.
The Brooklyn-based Nerve Tonic purveyors known as Junk Science just picked up a solid 7.5 out of 10 from AllHipHop.com. Here’s some of what they had to say:
“Gran’Dad’s Nerve Tonic isn’t an opiate for the masses but accessible Hip-Hop that everyone can relate to“
Read the review here, they manage to use words like “minimalist” and “composition” without being pretentious or over anyone’s head. And go out and get that Gran’Dad’s Nerve Tonic already, out now!
Yes, that’s right. OkayPlayer.com has deemed Iller Than Theirs‘ debut album worthy of four out of five afros. Check it out:
“Despite their boastful name, Iller Than Theirs is about as down-to-earth as a hip-hop group can be. They’re a prime example of when keeping it real goes right.”
If you have yet to understand the full essence of Iller Than Theirs, I recommend reading this review - and of course checking out the album! (And to put this all in perspective, Soulja Boy received 1.5 afros.)
The high-energy music video for Las Vegas rapper Musab’s single “Baaang!” has found another home online at XLR8R Magazine’s recently re-launched website. For the first single off of his latest album, Slick’s Box, Sab keeps it simple and fresh with a video reminiscent of the Golden Age of hip-hop. As an added touch, the vid also features Musab’s children throughout.
