Rapping/Singing/Producing Southern Newcomer, Nevelle Viracocha, Announces His Debut EP, Eff/Pee/Ohh
The Alabama Native Draws On Lessons Learned While Living Abroad to Create “Trancy Vibe Music”
09.07.2016
The Announcement:
Continuing the storied tradition of creative, spaced-out Southern rappers such as Outkast and Big K.R.I.T., producer/singer/rapper Nevelle Viracocha is a special talent, combining traditional Southern sounds with elements of other genres of music he was introduced to as a military brat who grew up partly in Berlin and South Korea. Today, Nevelle announces that he will release his Eff/Pee/Ohh EP, a nine-track taste of what the world can expect from the gifted upstart, on October 7th. To date, Nevelle Viracocha has released two music videos and a handful of songs so far, but they’re enough to suggest he’s a powerful new talent with a story to tell.
Born in North Carolina to military parents with deployments all over the world, Nevelle moved around a lot. Vowing to be a Southerner through and through, however, (his parents are both from the South and he spent his formative years in a small town in Alabama where he developed his Andre 3000-esque twang,) Nevelle also spent ample time coming of age in glittering, metropolitan cities in Germany and South Korea. Applying his unique perspective Nevelle comments, “When you’re a foreigner, sometimes you get lost and need directions – those experiences teach you a universal language that I try to apply to music. At the age 18 I lived 45-minute train ride away from Seoul, where I really took my artistry to another level.”
“Eff/Pee/Ohh, or FPO, stands for ‘For Promo Only,'” says Nevelle about the EP’s title. “FPO can be looked at as an appetizer platter of my music. Sometimes as an artist you caught up in the struggle of just getting a project out. FPO is me simply saying ‘HERE.’ This is a small taste of what I have to offer in the meantime. This project was cultivated organically and in private, working only with in-house producers whom I’ve built relationships with over the years.”
Every facet of Nevelle’s prodigious talent is on display on “Double Up,” a standout track and video from Eff/Pee/Ohh. Wilding out on top of Luis Lopez‘s apocalyptic, herky-jerk trap beat, the globe-trotting emcee shows off his double time flow, his skill with rhythmic cadences, and his Travis Scott-style melodic vocal overdrive. In July, Nevelle released the “Double Up” video, filmed in the Oakland City neighborhood of Atlanta, which finds Nevelle rhyming on rooftops, showing off his hoops skills, and riding around out the window of a blue Ferrari. “This is your song to hustle to every day,” explains Nevelle. “The message is simple, go and get it!”

Nevelle Viracocha Background
People often knock Southern hip-hop for being simplistic, overlooking the fact that the South possesses one of the most creative lineages ever in hip-hop—that of the space-age artist, started by the ATLiens of Outkast and continued through extraterrestrial Cadillactica with Big K.R.I.T from Mississippi . Whenever an artist emerges in that mold—able to sing, rap, and produce music in such a way that brings one back to that interstellar headspace—they’re worth paying attention to. Nevelle Viracocha has released two music videos and a handful of songs so far, but they’re enough to suggest he’s a powerful new talent with a story to tell.
Empire Background
EMPIRE was founded in 2010 as an artist-friendly, progressive digital distribution company. After early success, and identifying future icons such as Kendrick Lamar, Sage The Gemini, and Rich Homie Quan, EMPIRE was quickly regarded as a tastemaker in the industry and throughout the past five years evolved into a full-fledged record label, distributor and publisher for independent musicians. With the company and roster growing at a breakneck pace, EMPIRE has effectively disrupted a stale business model by bringing its energy, expertise, and acumen to its artists and labels.
