The EP:

Nef The Pharaoh has ridden his hyphy wave into 2016 flawlessly – say daat! Teaming up with trendsetting Texas producer Cardo, who’s been on the cutting edge for the past decade providing early work for the likes of Wiz Khalifa, Big Sean, Curren$y, and more, it should come as no surprise that he and Nef decided to link for a project. With more than 215K plays on SoundCloud, their first collaborative effort “Michael Jackson” proved to be a stand-out cut on the 20-year-old Vallejo, CA rapper’s self-titled EP, which released in November via E-40‘s Sick Wid It Records. Accompanied by an interview, Nef The Pharaoh and Cardo’s Neffy Got Wings project premieres via Noisey, who notes that Nef has “quickly revealed himself to be a newly exciting voice in line with the rich tradition of Bay Area rap—nimbly handling the hyphy sound at times but more importantly embodying the kinds of frenetic shifts in lyrical tone and willingness for experimentation that made guys like Mac Dre so appealing in the first place.”

Complex named Nef The Pharaoh one of 20 Artists to Watch Out for in 2016. “Much as drill artists in Chicago import and interpolate Atlanta trap influences, Nef blends local Bay flavor with hints of Louisiana rap, past and present,” Complex praised. The first single from Nef The Pharaoh and Cardo’s Neffy Got Wings, “#Saydaat,” debuted via The FADER, who praised the buzzing artist as a “legend-in-the-making.” It was followed by a Billboard premiere of the Ty Dolla $ign and Eric Bellinger assisted second single, “Action.” In December, Drake shouted out Nef The Pharaoh on Instagram after the two linked during the OVO general’s trip California. Later in the month, Kehlani announced Nef The Pharaoh as the special guest for her sold out Tsunami Christmas event where he performed his hit single “Big Tymin’,” an ode to the Big Tymers and Cash Money era that San Francisco’s 106 KMEL charted at #34 on their Top 106 Songs of 2015. XXL named Nef The Pharaoh’s self-titled EP one of the 20 Best Mixtapes and EP’s of 2015, while HotNewHipHop named him one of the Breakout Artists of 2015.

Nef The Pharaoh is currently on tour throughout January and February on G-Eazy‘s When It’s Dark Out Tour alongside A$AP Ferg and Marc E. Bassy.
