MP3: MAHD – “Raptizm”

The Motor City MC Takes Aim On His Latest Loosie, Premiered By HipHopDX, Album Slated For March 2015

12.23.2014

Critical Praise for Artist Name:

“…equipped with a rapid fire flow and a sharp delivery.” – DJBooth

“The up-and-coming Motor City MC makes a city known for it’s blight beam bright.” – The Smoking Section

“Like the city he hails from, MAHD’s work represents stark contrasts: grit and beauty, aggression and vulnerability.” – NYLON Magazine

The Song:
“I swear they don’t make ’em like me no more” proclaims Detroit rapper MAHD on his loose single, “Raptizm,” which debuts via HipHopDX. What makes “Raptizm” stand-out is the dichotomy between MAHD’s gruff vocals and urgent delivery with the lush production by Jeff Gore. Amid a soaring sample of a choir, MAHD calls out a host of individuals. “Normally when I hear a track that I like, the beat gives me the inspiration and subject matter follows,” MAHD explains. “I’ve watched almost every rap battle ever, so that competitive part of the culture is definitely in me.”

If his searing indictment of hip-hop culture is any indication of the type of music he’ll be delivering with his forthcoming album, 13, the Midwest MC might have a point. Whether he’s trying to bring the real back on the soulful “Raw Shit,” which premiered with Okayplayer earlier this month, or representing his hometown on “Hello Detroit,” which 2DopeBoyz labeled “a passionate painting of the city’s make-up and plea to its detractors,” MAHD’s greatest skill is the fearlessness he demonstrates throughout his lyrics. “My aggressive style is to capture the listener and let you know I mean what I say,” MAHD says, which helps illuminate the combative nature of his delivery. As Okayplayer stated, MAHD is “another solid addition to the city’s roster of ice cold lyricists.” It might be cold in the “D,” but with the release of 13 in March, MAHD has a chance to heat the winter up.
