The Remix:
SoCal Electro/Soul/Funk duo Crush Effect have transformed Major Lazer and DJ Snake‘s hit “Lean On” ft. MØ by incorporating an arrangement of speaker-rattling basslines, blaring brass, and cutting-contest-like pianos. The original track is a worldly effort, with American, French, and Danish talents all combined into one song. Crush Effect brings “Lean On” to a body-bouncing tempo, transforming the commercial hit into a fusion of jazzy and electronic elements. “Bringing a dreamy layer to the whole piece, the song is a remix producer’s total package, and something an artist like Ryan Hemsworth would definitely be caught blasting in his next set,” stated EARMILK in their premiere. “With an ode to the original and a spin into their unique fashion, this feels dipped in hip hop with an electronic icing over it. In other words, it’s freaking fantastic and worthy of all of your ears.”
Crush Effect previously released their Until the Next EP, which Sensible Reason calls “an electro-soul masterpiece.” The EP showcases their unique style, blending soul with jazz influences along with modern, bass-heavy EDM sounds. Also available for free download, the EP has gained the duo critical praise and a ton of new fans. As stated by Heady Tunes, “Crush Effect is emerging with a sound that should not go unnoticed by any electronic music listener.” Crush Effect has been compiling a list of accomplishments dating back a couple of years, with the duo winning the Future Music Magazine 2010 “Claude Von Stroke Remix Competition, while also scoring as a runner up in Kaskade’s 2010 Beatport.com Dynasty Remix Competition. Recently, they’ve gotten placements in a nationally aired Kia commercial with Blake Griffin, along with a Southern Comfort commercial.
