The Multifaceted Artist Spotlights Excellent Songwriting on “Island” With Grammy-Nominated Singer/Songwriter Tayla Parx

Critical Praise for Eric Bellinger:

“Sharing the genetic pool with his grandfather, Bobby Day – R&B singer, and songwriter for groups like the Jackson 5 – Eric is R&B’s most gifted songwriter.” – The Lunch Table

“Eric Bellinger is an up-and-coming R&B singer who has tons of talent and could make some waves very soon.”  – Complex

“Eric Bellinger—the Los Angeles singer/songwriter whose single with Problem, “I Don’t Want Her,” made waves last year—fits somewhere between Ty Dolla $ign’s of-the-moment snap and Ne-Yo’s oh-so-earnest mid-’00s R&B.” – FADER

“If you’re single or trying to find signs of love in the world, Eric Bellinger will make you believe in love again.” – Singersroom

The Announcement:

Wielding a precise pen and acrobatic vocal skills, Eric Bellinger is a proven hitmaker who effortlessly crosses genre (and party) lines. Following up on Eric B. for President: Term 2, his second in a series of EPs, Eric Bellinger announces Term 2 Acoustic. A back-to-basics rendition of the breezy Eric B. for President: Term 2, Eric Bellinger brings the painstaking attention to detail and songwriting craft behind the production frills to center stage. Effortlessly transforming atmospheric bangers like the ELHAE-featuring “Know/Vibes” and the bossa nova flavors of the Wale-assisted “Treat Yourself” into lilting acoustic ballads, Eric Bellinger flexes his range as a songwriter and musician and positions himself as one of the purest musicians in the modern R&B scene.

A former Division I football recruit and a Grammy-winning songwriter, Eric Bellinger is your favorite rapper’s favorite singer. Earlier this year, the tireless singer-songwriter released Cannabliss, a 5-track EP and a declaration of love for the good plant. The project followed Eric’s politically-themed EP two-parter Eric B. For President: Term 1, and Eric B. For President: Term 2which featured appearances from Wale, Victoria Monet, ELHAE, and Tayla Parx. Eric Bellinger is also keeping busy by releasing weekly E-Mixes, which are his R&B interpretations of pop and rap songs like SZA‘s “Love Galore,” Drake’s “Fake Love,” Rae Sremmurd’s “Black Beatles” and DJ Snake and Justin Bieber’s Let Me Love You.”

Today, Eric Bellinger shares a refined, acoustic version of “Island” via EARMILK. A glistening, summery ballad with a reggae flair, “Island” captures the essence of domestic love in a songwriting clinic from Bellinger and the über-talented Tayla Parx. A 23-year old songwriting wizard and actress, with writing credits including Fifth HarmonyChristina AguileraAriana GrandeNicki Minaj, and Alicia Keys, Parx perfectly complements Bellinger on “Island,” a beautifully sung duet about hiding away with your lover in a private paradise. Stay tuned for Term 2 Acoustic, which arrives on September 8th.

“I was sitting at the island in the middle of the kitchen watching my girl cook at the time,” explains Eric. “At first, I was joking. Every metaphor came to me so easy because I was sitting there lookin’ around, picturing us actually gettin’ it cracking right there on the table. I had every tool necessary to paint the perfect picture. I knew people would initially think the song was about an actual island in the ocean when they first saw the title. I wondered if they would catch the real idea and that’s what made me wanna stick to that concept even more. I feel like people critique and judge singer-songwriters’ bars with a very fine-toothed comb, so me being the creative that I am it only challenged me to go even harder conceptually. I had always been a fan of Tayla, from her tone to her effortless swag on that mic. When we’d first confirmed the session, I already knew what song would be perfect for us to do together. She walked in and said, ‘what we doin?’ I had ‘Island’ waiting for her with the open second verse. She heard it and we immediately dove right in and started coming up with ideas.”

The Background:

Over the last 6 years, Eric Bellinger has become one of the music industry’s most sought after songwriters while also proving himself to be equally talented as a singer and a rapper. Seamlessly fusing smooth and retro R&B melodies with edgy hip-hop, Bellinger, the grandson of “Rockin Robin” songwriter Bobby Day, has earned the reputation as quick yet intuitive songwriter. Having collaborated with Grammy-winning songwriter/producers J.R. Rotem and Rodney Jerkins, the Compton, California native has quickly racked up more than 80 song placements just in the last two years alone, writing for Justin Bieber, Nicki Minaj, Chris Brown, Usher, Trey Songz, Jennifer Hudson, The Game, and Janelle Monae. He has scored hits with his songwriting for Justin Bieber (“Right Here,”) Usher (“Lemme See,”) and Chris Brown (“Fine China.”) His work with Brown, specifically his contributions to Brown’s album F.A.M.E., also earned him a Grammy award. Following 10 years of being in singing groups, the former church boy singer formally stepped out as a solo artist in 2013, steadily churning out a series of well-regarded mixtapes. Working with artists including 2 Chainz, Kid Ink, Mya, Ty Dolla $ign, and Sage the Gemini, Bellinger quickly found success as a solo artist, selling out his U.K. tour, getting his independent label YFS distributed by Lyor Cohen’s 300 Entertainment, and amassing over 10 million views on YouTube. Bellinger has come full circle as a triple-threat talent, simultaneously forging a burgeoning solo career while further cementing his reputation as one of R&B and pop music’s top go-to writers.
