The Video:

22 year-old rapper Dylan Owen‘s There’s More To Life EP, which releases June 8th, is a coming of age story about an individual growing up in a small town, treading through waves of anxiety for the future. In his Mike Holland-directed video for “Everything Gets Old,” which debuted via DJBooth, Dylan reflects on friendships and life’s calling as he transitions from adolescence to adulthood. “We slowly grow apart, ” he explains. “My best friend and I have different lives, I start traveling to the city to perform music, his girlfriend leaves him but keeps in touch with me, etc. We tried to capture the nostalgia of my hometown area and the mystery of the future.”

Over a rolling, melancholy beat by Skinny Atlas and Jason Moss, picturesque scenes of Dylan and his friends showcase universal coming-of-age uncertainties that many young adults feel today; what will happen when some of us start to grow apart as we reach adulthood? What does the future hold? “Everything Gets Old” was the first single to be released from his upcoming EP, and it recently surpassed 100K plays on SoundCloud. “I thought of this song while driving down the highway in the middle of the night,” Dylan reveals. “I say ‘I’m infinite’ because time stops in that moment when you can peacefully reflect on things. I pass houses that haven’t taken down their Christmas lights in the middle of the year, spots where me and my friends used to hang, lots of symbols of time moving on.”

The young rap artist recently graduated from New York University’s esteemed Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music where he racked up over 200K YouTube views of videos he shot in his dorm room. His previous releases include Keep Your Friends Close and Senioritis, which features underground rap sensations Mac Lethal and Symmetry (of Symmetry x Ryan Lewis). Dylan Owen has showcased his clever wordplay and multisyllabic patterns to audiences around the nation by opening for the likes of Mac Miller, Wiz Khalifa, Yelawolf, Chiddy Bang, Logic, Grieves, Mac Lethal, Skizzy Mars, Asher Roth, and more. Now, he’s gearing up for the release of his There’s More To Life EP, which took over three years to make, on June 8th.

Dylan Owen Background:

Dylan Owen is a rap artist from New York. With his own brand of heart-on-sleeve, confessional storytelling, he has built an undeniable fan following at a young age. His wordplay and multisyllabic patterns prove his proficiency as a rapper, while his writing feels more like that of a young storyteller who can also rhyme. Dylan left Cornell University in 2011 to develop as an artist in New York City.

In late 2012, Billboard elected Dylan a top-15 “Next Big Sound” artist based on his swiftly growing online buzz. Dylan has opened for Mac Miller, Wiz Khalifa, Yelawolf, Chiddy Bang, Mac Lethal, Grieves, George Watsky, The Metermaids, Logic, Skizzy Mars, Asher Roth, and many others. Dylan will be releasing music and videos leading up to a new project, There’s More To Life, the next installment in his coming-of-age story.
