Marooned in an archive for three decades, Gary Weis' documentary, 80 Blocks From Tiffany’s, exposes the grim reality of gang warfare in the South Bronx circa 1979. Inspired by journalist Jon Bradshaw's Esquire Magazine article, "Savage Skulls," Weis, a filmmaker for Saturday Night Live, convinced Lorne Michaels to help turn the concept into a feature-length documentary. Following the Savage Skulls and Savage Nomads, two of the area's fiercest gangs, 80 Blocks provides a glimpse into a world that has long since vanished and the lives of those trapped in the domestic warzone.
