Video: Spinz & E. Lucas – “One Night”
The Hoodrich DJ/Producer/Artist and the ATL-via-Mississippi Newcomer Have a Night to Remember in New Video
An influential figure on Atlanta’s streets, Spinz is a tastemaker who knows talent when he sees it. His latest find is a young rapper from Mississippi named E. Lucas, a trap star with a melodic flow. Today, Spinz and E. Lucas share “One Night,” a hypnotic trap anthem with twinkling keys, off-key percussion, and dancing hi-hats. Released in October, “One Night” grew into a local hit, garnering over 200k plays on SoundCloud, 50k streams on Spotify, and over 100 spins weekly on terrestrial radio. Best known as a producer and DJ, “One Night” finds Spinz stepping behind the mic for the first time, impressing with a melodic cadence. In the video, Spinz and E. Lucas party with some fine ladies at a deserted warehouse, before ending their night at a diner. In a sinister twist, the video reveals that the main action is a mere memory of Spinz, who is kidnapped by masked assailants.
Spinz comments on his transition from producer to artist: ” My upcoming project is the first run of me actually being an artist and coming out from behind the boards. It’s a natural step in my evolution. I was DJing when I was 11 and on radio in my hometown of Augusta when 16, and started making beats when I moved to ATL at 18. Then the Travis Porter stuff happened. Then 2 Chainz happened. Now I’m 28. Rapping is the next transition, the next challenge. I have more of a story to tell, interesting viewpoints on life.”
A member of the Hoodrich DJ collective and the CEO of his own label Tunefreak Recordings, Spinz (aka DJ Spinz) is an important behind-the-scenes figure in the formidable Atlanta rap scene. With his affiliate DJ Scream, Spinz helped break many Atlanta artists into the hip-hop spotlight, giving prominent airtime to Travis Porter on his radio show and producing breakout hits like “Cashin Out” by Ca$h Out, and “Riot,” by 2 Chainz, as well as Billboard smashes like Ty Dolla $ign‘s “Blasé,” Future’s instant classic “Fuck Up Some Commas,“ and Rich Homie Quan‘s “Flex (Ooh Ooh Ooh).” With their upcoming project, Spinz will share the spotlight with eccentric Tunefreak Recordings-signed newcomer E. Lucas, as the tape showcases their rhythmelodic skills and demonstrates a rare chemistry that will win them countless new fans.
