The Song:

Today, independent powerhouse hip-hop label Funk Volume releases Dizzy Wright’s music video for “The Perspective” feat. Chel’le.  The young Las Vegas-based rapper is preparing himself for another stellar year of projects with shadowy, steamy visuals for a track from his wildly successful mixtape, The Golden Age, which logged over 150,000 downloads last year alone. Filmed in black and white, the video shows scenes found in Anywhere, America at any time of day: guys and girls setting up selfie photoshoots fiending for approval to replace voids where hurt, lack of confidence, revenge, and the quest for fame might lurk. Raps Dizzy, “B*tches be showing off so much a n*gga can damn-near taste the hoe,” while songstress Chel’le echoes, “He on Instagram flexin’ / Biting his lip and takin’ off his shirt with his reflection / couple ‘likes’ always got him checkin’ his phone every second / he’s fiendin’ for the perspective.” Citing demons and bad break-ups along with more positive reasons such as wanting to be self-made and self-sufficient, Dizzy posits many reasons why people might obsess over taking selfies. Admitting he’s only human too, Dizzy relates, saying “I’m a man of flaws / I ain’t finna judge you for your ways.”

Dizzy is continuing to advance the  powerful momentum he built up from last year, in which he was named a XXL Magazine 2013 Freshman, winning the fan-voted “People’s Champ” position. He has also recently opened for Hopsin during the first 15 dates of his Knock Madness tour, which is still in progress. Continuing to work hard and diligently, Dizzy Wright is currently working on new material that will be released later this year and will be performing at SXSW 2014.

Dizzy Wright Background:

Not many 21-year old rappers can say that they’ve been rapping for over a decade. Las Vegas, Nevada, Rapper Dizzy Wright began rapping at just 8 years old, in the group “DaFuture” with his brother and very close friend; his mother wrote his raps at the time. Dizzy broke through when he was discovered at the Sheikh Music “Rip the Mic” competition in 2010 and signed onto Funk Volume a few months later. In April 2012, Dizzy released his first Funk Volume album, SmokeOut Conversations, peaking at #2 on the iTunes Hip-Hop charts. He followed it up with a free mixtape, Free SmokeOut Conversations, which has been downloaded over 200,000 times, and helped propel Dizzy to his own national 30-city tour. In December 2012, Dizzy went on to release the first of four EPs, The First Agreement, which reached as high as #2 on the iTunes Hip-Hop chart. In March of 2013, Dizzy gathered enough votes to be selected as the “People’s Choice” member of the XXL Freshman Class of 2013. Also in 2013, Dizzy released The Golden Age mixtape and followed it up with The Golden Age Tour.
