The Song:

“No distractions, just focused, it’s like magic happened when I wrote this/ like hocus and then pocus, and that pen stroke gives the dope shit,” raps Pittsburgh rhymesayer Devin Miles on “My Table.” The production by Kyle Justice has an earthy vibe to it, as sounds echo behind thumping bass kicks. In their premiere of the track, Mass Appeal compliments the song as “an atmospheric display of [Devin’s] ability to flow.”

This loose single follows the release of Miles’ album, Pixburgh, which premiered earlier this month with HotNewHipHop. The first two singles from Pixburgh, “Came Up” and “Chess, Not Checkers,” demonstrated how multifaceted Miles is as an artist, with HNHH commending Miles on his “singing ability,” on “Came Up,” while praising Miles and fellow Pittsburgh rapper Hardo as “Grandmasters of this shit” on “Chess, Not Checkers.” The Steel City MC proved he’s more than a great rapper, but also a superb songwriter after the release of Pixburgh. “Devin does a great job of juxtaposing his past and present situations,” says XXL, “giving the listener a vivid picture of where he came from.” Adding on to the praises, The Source states that “the Pittsburgh emcee gives you a piece of himself by rapping his tough journey to where he is now over mostly chilled out production.”

Standing strong at 500,000 YouTube views coupled with a million Soundcloud plays, Devin Miles is the latest self-made voice from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania challenging he status quo of hip-hop. However, contrary to local voices like Wiz Khalifa and Mac Miller—the latter of whom has been a longtime close friend—Miles aims to show his personal Pixburgh, a complex view of city-life. “I’m trying to show people the depth of Pitt,” says the early-twenties rapper and producer, disagreeing with pop culture’s portrayal of partying, Steelers, and stacked sandwiches.
