Daye Jack is many things. Born in Nigeria, raised in Atlanta, and living in Los Angeles, the former Computer Science major makes music that mixes rap, electro, and pop into a unique blend, forging the sound of Hip-Hop’s future. Daye demonstrates his versatile talent in the video for “Deep End,” premiered today by Billboard. Pool party poppin around him, Daye spits his verses percussively, flexing his skills as an MC over the MAG produced beat, before dropping into a delicate falsetto for the chorus, showing off the pop sensibility that inspired esteemed songwriter Max Martin to take Daye under his tutelage. Originally premiered by Zane Lowe on Beats 1 Radio and featured on the most recent episode of Empire, “Deep End” is a standout track from Daye’s second retail EP Surf The Web.

The EP features seven tracks about living a human life in a digital world, including previously-released highlights “Deep End,” the accurately titled “Raw,” played more than 363,000 times on SoundCloud, which features snapping boom-bap drums and “Death of Auto-Tune”-style guitars, and the bassy electro pop-rap banger “Finish Line,” (122,000 plays on SoundCloud). Born in Nigeria, Daye Jack moved with his family to Atlanta at the age of six, splitting his time between soccer, computer programming, listening to Outkast, 50 Cent, and Eminem, and singing in choir. After high school, Daye earned a scholarship to NYU, majoring in Computer Science and furthering his musical development by absorbing the works of artists like Chance The Rapper, and deriving creative and collaborative inspiration from his talented classmates. In 2014, Daye released his breakthrough mixtape Hello World, which caught the attention of Max Martin, who signed him to his publishing imprint, and Warner Bros.
