The Song:

Oakland California’s newest rising star C-Money continues his rise up the ranks, dropping new music from his forthcoming EP, Just 4 You, available November 18th. This time, C-Money teams up with the legendary Too $hort on his new single, the anti-cuffing track “Keep Up.” Reflecting on first meeting the Bay Area pioneer in an interview with HipHopDX, C-Money explains, “I really didn’t have a convo with him at that time.” It was only after being reintroduced by his brother Rickystyles, that $hort “felt my energy and told me if there’s any way he could help me or my career to get at him, and so I did.”

“Keep Up,” produced by DJ Kronics, is a synth-laden, 808-heavy club banger, drawing its catchy hook from the familiar refrain from Dr. Dre’s “Let’s Get High.”  The song is everything you would expect from a C-Money & Too $hort collaboration, with the Bay Area rappers lyrically demonstrating the art of macking. C-Money gets right down to business, cementing his player status by throwing slick jabs like Cuz it ain’t like that/aint tryna wife that/Im just tryna take her home for a nitecap.” $hort closes out the song reminding the fellas that no relationship is safe when he’s out on the prowl. “$hort Dawg/ I flow through the night / If you see a b*tch with me / you know she ain’t my wife.”Keep Up” is a bouncy, infectious single that will get love from the nightclubs to the stripclubs.

“Keep Up” is the follow up to C-Money’s breakout video single “Play That” feat. Iamsu!, which recently premiered on BET’s 106 & Park. His debut EP, Just 4 You arrives in late November with features from Iamsu!, Too $hort and more.

C-Money Background:

With a smooth style and a jovial demeanor, Oakland California rapper, C-Money is easy to get along with. Part of what makes C’s music stand out is his careful balance of lyricism and style. “I have an East Coast flare with a West Coast style,” he describes, citing Wu-Tang Clan and Scarface as primary songwriting influences. “With the punchlines, a lot of artists are just gonna be limited to that. I’m a melodic artist, who rides that beat—so I get both of those. Plus, my sound is catchy.” Like Bay rappers are known for, C-Money’s slapping beats fit the strip club, but between his own catchy choruses, he stuffs the bars with honesty, wisdom, and life—unlike many of today’s rappers—things he’s actually lived.  Look out for C-Money’s debut EP, Just 4 You, featuring Iamsu! and Kool John of HBK Gang and more, available November 18th
