The Video:

Cultivating a hybrid of pop, R&B, and electronic, the Australian artist BLESSED heralds a promising new direction for rhythmic music. The latest single from the Sydney native, “Insanity” is a sweeping epic of a song, with BLESSED riding a percussive, Kid Cudi-type delivery over massive African-style drums, plaintive piano chords, haunting vocal samples, and a climactic bass drop. Today, Pigeons & Planes premieres a visual that lives up to the far-reaching scope of the track. The visual for “Insanity” follows a troubled youth with bleach-blonde hair, who struggles to control his emotions in his pursuit of his love interest. The story takes dramatic twists and turns, from moments of tenderness to moments of violence, but begins and ends with mirror images. Directed by Julian Machuca, the video is a perfect complement to the song’s themes of intense emotional
connection and loss.

BLESSED explains the concept and origins of the video: “The ‘Insanity’ video was a bunch of friends coming together to create a reenactment of the feelings and fears of the song, in a world where only two exist in a spiral of emotions. Starring Laurence Macrow-Cain and Shenay Carey, shot and directed by Julian Machuca with help from the rest of the team at a BLESSED production the video is the depiction of a love spiraling you toward your own insanity Hope you guys enjoy it.”

Signed to an Australian major label for the better part of this decade, BLESSED recently parted ways to pursue his unique artistic vision. His upcoming early 2017 project, BLESSED, his first entirely independent project, is an appealing swirl of disparate genres, coalescing with the help of the artist’s singular talent. The first single from the project, “Sorrows,” caught the ear of Pigeons & Planes, who named BLESSED one of the Best New Artists of September 2016, calling him “one of the most exciting new voices we heard this month.” With an assist from P&P, the song approached 1 million Spotify plays. Since “Sorrows,” BLESSED released “Insanity” and the guitar-driven “One and Only,” demonstrating his range. With over 40,000 monthly Spotify listeners in the US, BLESSED is ready to make a dent in the mainstream in 2017.
