Mixtape: Blaq Tuxedo x DJ Charisma – Tap In

The Sacramento-Born Brothers Blend Rap, Electro, and R&B Into an Enticing Cocktail in Their New Mixtape

4.7.2017

The Mixtape:

A brother-brother duo out of Sacramento, Blaq Tuxedo‘s luxurious, textured strain of electro R&B is an ideal soundtrack for long drives down the Pacific Coast Highway or for beachside parties. Returning with a full-length mixtape hosted by Los Angeles’ DJ Carisma, the LA-based duo shares Tap In, an 11-track collection of bass-heavy R&B jams of every flavor and stripe. Produced almost entirely by Blaq Tuxedo themselves, Tap In is packed with diverse highlights, such as the slow-mo, Drake-esque “Commited,” the menacing, eerie “Stay In Your Lane,” seductive slow jam “Over Due,” premiered by Earmilk, and the dancefloor-ready bounce of “About It,” which premiered last week in Pigeons & Planes. Premiered by HotNewHipHopTap In is a vibrant blend of Northern California and Southern California sounds and sensibilities, bolstered by crack songwriting and a unique familial chemistry between the brothers.

Born in Sacramento, Darius and Dom Logan started singing together when they were young childen, honing their skills until moving to L.A. in 2009 to become professional producer songwriters. The brothers built a reputation and connected with other writers in Los Angeles, such as Andre Merritt and Fly Stylz, who introduced Dom and Darius to Usher and Chris Brown. The duo became one of the industry’s songwriting go-to’s, writing hits for Brown, Meek Mill, Ciara, August Alsina, Omarion, among others, and earning a Grammy nomination in 2014. In 2012, the duo released Unforgettable, their first vocal project, recording under the name D&D. Soon afterward, they changed their name to Blaq Tuxedo, which they felt better encapsulated their sound. As Blaq Tuxedo, they have released two EPs, including the recent Red Flowerzwhich featured appearances from Bibi Bourelly, IAMSU! and Ty Dolla $ign, and the self-sufficient Limousine EP. Blaq Tuxedo recently earned some radio play for the E-40-featuring single “Lit,” which has earned over 700,000 plays on SoundCloud
