Over the course of his career, Berner has gained a reputation as one of rap’s foremost stoner emcees. In addition to recording 22 albums and working with some of the biggest names in the business such as Cam’Ron, Snoop Dogg, B-Real, Chris Brown, DJ Mustard, and Ty Dolla $ign, Berner has built a marijuana empire. Creating popular cannabis strain Girl Scout Cookies, launching a new brand of organic herbal beverages called Hemp2O, founding apparel company Cookies SF, and now being a partner of the country’s largest grow house, Reef Industries, based in Las Vegas, Berner has cemented himself as rap’s utmost authority on the marijuana industry.
Recognized as one of the most knowledgeable people to navigate this booming and murky industry, Berner has been releasing mini-documentaries through his Marijuana Mania YouTube series.
Focusing on the marijuana industry in Seattle and the state of Washington, Berner goes in depth about what goes into producing, processing, and selling weed. He also interviews local professionals about the complications of working in an industry, that while locally legal, is still federally illegal and ruminates on the ways that legalization is affecting the culture.
Earlier this month, Berner teamed up with Cypress Hill’s B-Real to release Prohibition Part 3 incelebration of the legalization of recreational in four states and medical marijuana in three. An ideal listen for a late-night smoke session or for a windows-down drive down the California coast, the album is a passionate call for legalization across the country. Featuring appearances from Wiz Khalifa, Paul Wall, Devin The Dude, Dizzy Wright, Quez, B-Legit, and Demrick, the album is full front to back with stoner anthems. Prohibition 3 follows up the lush and expansive Hempire, which debuted at #4 on the Billboard Hip-Hop Album Charts in March. Berner rolls out the green carpet for a litany of all-star guests, including Wiz Khalifa (who appears on five tracks), Snoop Dogg, K Camp, Travis Porter, Mistah F.A.B., B-Real, Atmosphere, Juicy J, Project Pat, Young Dolph, and Lil Kim, who revisits the “Get Money” beat on album highlight “Still Rich.” Earlier in March, Berner dropped the video for “Best Thang Smokin’,” featuring Snoop Dogg, Wiz Khalifa and B Real, which has racked over two million views on YouTube. Hempire follows last year’s release of Berner’s Contraband EP, a collaborative EP with Cam’Ron. 2015 also saw Berner release three solo projects, 20 Lights and both albums in the Prohibition series, as well as a Drought Season 3, collaborative LP with the late Bay Area legend The Jacka. Berner signed toTaylor Gang in 2011 and quickly burst onto the national scene with “Yoko” featuring Wiz Khalifa and Big K.R.I.T.
