The Alternative RnB and Rap Duo Connect for Their Latest Plea for Love

“Marc E. Bassy is a fresh voice and one of LA’s own. He fits comfortably in the space between Frank Ocean and Mac Miller.” – LA Music Blog
“His bouncy flow channels the manic energy of Chance The Rapper; the animated style and tempered synths of “Cigarettes” could comfortably fit as a b-side to Acid Rap” – SPIN
“We were able to give Marc his first ever solo performance at our SXSW Showcase, and it exceeded all expectations.” – Good Music All Day
“A very unique artist, you’ll want to tune in for 2014.” – Hypnotic Hippo
The Song:
Two months after the release of his VIBE magazine premiered East Hollywood EP, Marc E. Bassy joins alternative Hip-Hop artist Skizzy Mars to release “Come Back.” The track, in which Bassy sings the chorus while Mars handles the verses, illustrates the all too common story of a man lost for love after straying away from his long-term relationship. While Mars tells the story of how his relationship fell apart in addition to bad-mouthing his ex’s current fling, Bassy uses his signature warm, neo-soul influenced vocals to make the final plea during each chorus while committing to change his past ways. Despite its lyrical content, the track maintains a smooth atmosphere with its prevalent late 90s RnB style synth, its bright bass line, and rhythmic kick drum, in addition to Mars’s and Bassy’s soothing vocal performance. After posting the track on his Facebook page, Bassy wrote that “Come Back” is him and Skizzy’s “best [collaboration] yet.”
Marc E. Bassy’s collaboration with Skizzy Mars follows his recent performance at The Roots Picnic after being hand-picked by Questlove, and the release of his widely covered East Hollywood EP, which he released in April. Before embarking on his career as a solo artist, Bassy collaborated and wrote for artists including Chris Brown, Usher, Akon, Prynch Royce, Allen Stone, HBK Gang, and more. Bassy has additionally been described as “smooth” by The FADER and a “fresh voice” by LA Music Blog. Originally from Northern California, Bassy currently resides in Los Angeles, where the inspiration for many of his tracks derives from.
